Happy Memorial Day folks! To all of the brave men and women who protect our country and our freedoms everyday, I would like to thank you for what you do for this country everyday.
I was at the Orioles game today (probably will post about that later) and during the onfield ceremonies where they were honoring soldiers it hit me how tied to the hip Baseball and American culture is. Its not just how American baseball is (because its not now, its international) but its about how tight of a connection baseball has to our culture (there is a very subtle difference between the two subjects in that statement). Baseball is a Memorial Day tradition. I can't think of memorial day without baseball because its where I have always gone on Memorial Day. It becomes a public forum to thank all of Armed Services in a venue that is inviting to everyone and its a venue to show so many of our aspects of American Culture. It is where Baseball Culture and American Culture hit head on.
I hope everyone out there in Mets land and in the United States (and really all over the world) had a great day today. Once again, thank you to our Armed Forces for protecting us each and every day.

It is very moving to see and hear people thank our soldiers for a job done. Perhaps it is not said enough, thank you for taking time to thank them.
