View Article  Upcoming Milestones

Note: This article was originially written last monday, so, a few of the numbers might be outdated, I am trying to update this as I type

We all know about Glavine's 300th win coming up, but the Mets have a few other minor milestones and achievements coming up as well.

One of the milestones that was originally on this list was Jose Reyes stealing his 200 SB. He already did that last night. Once he gets to 203 SB, he will be the sole holder of 2nd in Mets History (passing Howard Johnson). Mookie is the all-time Mets leader at 281.

Billy Wagner is also approaching a few milestones on the all time save list. As of right now, he is 3rd on the list for all-time saves for lefty's with 341 saves. When he gets to 348 he will pass Randy Myers for second all-time on this list. That will also make Wagner 7th all time for saves for all pitchers. Wagner is one save away right now from being 7th on the Mets all time save board (that will be 58 saves with the Mets). Right now he is tied 57 with Braden Looper (not exactly great company).

David Wright is close to a personal achievement. He has 83 Homers and he is approaching 100. He is also 32 Doubles away for tieing for the 10th spot on the list more Mets all-time

Pedro is 2 SO away from 3000 carear.

Green is at 1947 Hits, or 53 hits away from joining the 2000 club.

John Maine is 11 strike outs away from 200.

If anything else catches my eye, I'll post it here

View Article  Past week's baseball notes and tidbits

With delay due to technical difficulties, every day I have been writing down posts for the site on sticky notes, and now am pulling them together as a list of thoughts and comments.

During the monday night nationally televised game, they quoted Reyes as saying that Gomez is faster than he is on a foot race (which I'm sure was on one of the metsblog sites ages ago).

Shawn Green and Carlos Gomez both had long long foul balls that were nearly homers, the pitch right before they each homers.

Steve Trax had another bad night this past week, and actually is on the DL right now. There is still a lot of speculation in Baltimore that he, Mora and Payton will all be moved before the deadline.

There was one Mets game earlier this week were LoDuca punched his glove on the inside of the plate as a trick, and the pitched ended up on the outside corner.....nice.

Also found this quote on a calander this week:

Hank Aaron: "I never thought home runs were all that exciting. I still think that the triple is the most exciting thing in baseball. To me, a triple is like a guy taking the ball on his 1-yard line and tunning 99 yards for a touchdown."

That is a real thought provoking quote.

Baseball Digest went on shelves this week, and in the Stat Corner this month, its all about cycles. There were some real interesting facts in there such as the Marlins, Padres, and Devil Rays each have no players that hit for the cycle. Jim Hickman on the Mets in 1963 is one of 14 players to ever hit a natural cycle. (That is going in order). Tony Lazzeri is the only player (yankees, 1932) to hit the natural cycle ending with a grand slam. Jon Olrued is one of two players to hit for the cycle in both leagues (national league with the Mets).

Also, there have been 235 cycles hit from 1900 to 2007, and there are 53 Hall of Famers who have done so (Ripkin will make 54)

This is of course to go along with Huff hitting for the cycle. I might post later some other new stats I have written down some where.

I also heard on Basbeall Tonight that people are thinking that the Mets have interest in Contrears from the White Sox.

Thats cool as long as we dont give up Humber. For two reasons. One, is his that he is a good prospect. Two, is that after 14 tries, I have secured an auto of his from Ebay.
